Friends oft he Museum “Förderverein”
The “Förderverein Museum Levi Strauss Geburtshaus e.V.” was founded in 1995. The original aim of the association was to support the town of Buttenheim in setting up, furnishing and running the museum in the Levi Strauss Birthplace. The main focus of the association’s activities up to the opening of the museum was the search for sponsors, the organisation of events, advertising campaigns and general public relations work. Countless hours of voluntary work and a lot of convincing were done by the founding members of the association to finally be able to launch the Levi Strauss Museum.
With the opening of the birthplace Levi Strauss Museum Jeans & Kult in 2000, the field of activity of the sponsoring association changed. In addition to the still important search for sponsors and funding opportunities, the focus was also on supporting the museum management at events, helping to build up the museum’s own collection, participating in the conception and implementation of special exhibitions, and establishing and maintaining contacts with experts and jeans lovers from all over the world. In addition, the Friends also run the museum shop on a voluntary and part-time basis, the profits from which flow to the museum in the form of grants.
Almost exactly 10 years after the opening of the museum, the extension building was opened. The Friends were able to support the technical equipment of the building.
In the meantime, the museum can rely on a solid base of public and private sponsors. The continuous work of the Friends enables professional museum work with high standards in the educational and didactic fields. Continuously increasing visitor numbers since the opening indicate the enormous attractiveness of the museum.
