History of the museum
At the Levi Strauss Museum in Buttenheim, everything revolves around the famous jeans.
Levi was born here in 1829. Nobody knew that for a long time.
Only a letter from America changed that.
The house where Levi was born is very old and was almost destroyed.
The house almost had to be demolished. But they wanted to keep it.
It was repaired and a museum was set up.
Come in!
Levi and his family lived on the ground floor.
There we show the story of his parents, grandparents and siblings.
And you will learn about the life of the Jews in Buttenheim.
We will show you pictures, photos and a short movie.
On the upper floor you will learn about jeans,
about the material from which jeans are made and why they are blue.
And you can see jeans that are almost 100 years old.
There are also other exhibits on the top floor,
for example a guitar.
We have also set up a small movie theater.
There you can watch short films about jeans.
The museum has its own room for exhibitions.
Sometimes events are also held there.
